Keep It Simple

POKER STRATEGY

When you start to play poker, you will more than likely be playing low-limit games. Beating these games does not require you to become a masterful poker player, it primarily entails that you are able to outplay poor opponents. Beating good players at high limits can be incredibly difficult, entailing many complex moves. However, winning at low limits is pretty straightforward.

What do I mean? Basically, other players won't be paying attention to you. They only care about their own cards; they don't care about you or your cards. They will play their hand as they always play their hand, regardless of whether or not you are in the pot. You are basically a ghost to them... but hopefully you will be a ghost that's slowly taking their money! If you want to beat these types of players, you simply need to a play a straightforward game that will win in the long run. For example, play tight, don't do any fancy bluffs, bet aggressively when you probably have the best hand, and utilize pot odds for your drawing decisions.

When it comes to deception with these players, slowplaying can work. These players are easily fooled into thinking they have the best hand when they hit a pair on the turn, so giving them a free card when you hold the stone nuts can be to your advantage. However, bluffing is simply an exercise in futility. These guys want to see if they have the best hand. They'll pay to see your cards just so they can see them sometimes! Don't expect to scare any fish at lower limits with an extra $2 bet.

Master the art of choosing starting hands, employing pot odds, and aggressively betting your winning hands. However, psychological strategies are generally useless. Your opponents are not thinking too deeply, and attempting any fancy plays will only hurt you.

WHY PLAY POKER???

Here are a few reasons!!!

Social rewards
. This is a major reason behind the traditional home game. Many friends like to hang out and play cards, and many people become friends over the card table. If this is one of the major reasons you wish to play, stick with low stakes, where the games are more fun and friendly.

Entertainment. Poker is a competitive game. To win, one needs the skills and the bit of luck the game necessitates. Many find this enjoyable and compare poker to playing a sport. Make sure you don't get swept up in the 'entertainment' nature of poker, because it is possible to lose a lot of money at the game.

Education. The skills necessary to become a good poker player apply well to other aspects of life. Poker will help you to improve your judgment skills (reading people) and sharpen your logical and strategic skills (how to play your hand).

To make money. Most people play poker for fun, but some make considerable money at it. Of course, these people are few and far between. Not everyone can make a lot of money from poker. Nevertheless, the desire to win more is definitely a reason to improve your poker skills.

Poker is one of the few forms of wagering where you can actually win. Casino-style betting is rigged against you (it is impossible to win in the long run at craps, roulette, etc., no matter what anyone says. The only exception is blackjack if you count cards, which is extremely difficult). Sports betting is also nearly impossible to beat without insider information. Thus, poker is one of the few forms of gambling where one can actually win money in the long run simply by being good at the game.

HOW TO GUIDE ON HOW TO HANDLE A BAD BEAT AT THE POKER TABLE

The Does And Dont's

There are many ways a player can handle a bad beat at the poker table or online. I'll start off by telling you the dont's if your at a poker table and you take a bad beat.
#1 Dont stand up and start cussing
#2 Dont start name calling the player that gave you the bad beat
(DONKEY, DONK, CUSS WORDS)
#3 Dont get mixed up in the next hand right away.

Here are a few DO's

#1 Tell the player nice hand and count out the chips and send them across
#2 Take a deep breathe and realize poker is a game of bad beats and your sure to give someone a bad beat and how you would like them to react.
#3 Sit out the next hand and compose your thoughts. Its ok to steam as long as it doesnt effect the way you play.

OK here are a few Donts for the online game.

#1 Dont start cussing the player in the chat box (Its best to have your chat off) I do, just in case you really want to say something you wont be able to. Cause as in live play on line if you get reported for langauge eyc you can have your chat suspended.
#2 Dont automatically raise the next hand to try to rush to make the money back. Realize the game is full of bad beats but to have bankroll management and conduct yourself in that way.
#3 Don't move up to higher tables and try to win the money back. Stay on the level your confortable with and play solid poker!!

Here are a few Do's

#1 Say either nice hand to the player (NH)
#2 Don't say anything just take the beat and get ready for the next few hands
#3 Take the next hand off unless you have a monster to collect yourself and compose your thoughts.

These are just a few of the tips I try to apply to my poker game in dealing with bad beats. The best tip of all is to remember like I said before, Poker is a game that includes bad beats. You'll definately recieve some and you will definately dish some out. Just try to play solid poker and keep the bad beats to a minimum and use good bankroll management.

Controling Your Online Bankroll

Many poker players first starting out in the world of poker dont really know how to control there bankroll in online poker ring games. Most people starting out on the low end of a starting bankroll ($50-$200) usually head straight for the .05 - .10 table online. They feel this is a good place to start out and not lose much money. Its good if your just starting out learning the game but if you know the rules the only true way to be a winning poker player is to step out of your comfort zone a few times and go to higher stake tables. But in doing so never go above what your bank roll can afford. I feel a good rule would be to make sure your bankroll is about 10 times higher than the max buy-in at the table you want to move up to. That way even if you take a bad beat your bankroll isnt that cripled and you can always buy back in without too much hesitation!bankroll
